Spice Tour

Zanzibar is the Spice Island; spices have been a very important aspect of the history of Zanzibar. When the Arabs came to Zanzibar they started the spice plantations and for a long time Zanzibar was the world’s biggest exporter of cloves. You will get to smell, taste, and see the spices as they grow (and they look a lot different then in your spices cabinet at home). On our way we will visit the ruins of the Sultan’s palace and an old Persian bath. The half day spice tour ends after lunch and if you have chosen for a full day excursion your guide will take you to Mangapwani, this is an historical place where slaves used to be “stored.” Slavery is a black page in the history of mankind but it is important to see the caves and realize how the slaves were treated. After this it is time to relax! We go to a beautiful beach and after a bit of relaxing and swimming we will drive back to Stone town.

Historical Citytour

Zanzibar used to be the business center of East Africa, trading in spices, ivory and slaves. The rulers of Zanzibar tried to attract as many traders as possible, this is why you will find so many different influences here. Ruled by the Portuguese, Arabs and English there is a lot to talk about. A lot of this interesting history you will find as you take a tour through the old city. The tour goes past the Old Ford, the House of Wonders, the Palace then through the old city, Mji Mkongwe. You will visit the market and the former slave market, on your way your guide will show you many more interesting and will try to give you a clear explanation of Zanzibar’s history.

Sunset Cruise

Zanzibar is amongst the tropical islands with the most beautiful color of the sea, to enjoy this best you should go on a sunset cruise, You board in Stonetown and as you sail away you will get a nice panorama of Stonetown. After snorkling you will sail for a nice place to stop (a sandbank or and island, depending on the tides) and while you watch the sunset and relax with a sundowner your guides will prepare a beach barbeque. When you are all full and ready to go back you will cruise back to Stonetown under the stars, another beautiful day in Paradise!!

Jozani Forest and Paje

Jozani Forest is one of Zanzibars special attractions. It is a forest of very tall Mahogany trees and in their shade there are many plants growing. Your guide will tell you of the medicinal use of some of those plants. The forest is home to the Zanzibar Red Colbus monkeys, these monkeys are endemic to Zanzibar! It is a wonderful thing to see them jump from one tree to another, they are not shy, so you can see them from a very short distance. Another part of Jozani is the mangrove forest where you will find three different kinds of Mangrove trees. Jozani is situated near the Eastcoast and that is where we will go next, to enjoy a walk on this beautiful beach or just to relax, swim and get a suntan, you can also take a stroll through Paje, a typical swahili coast village. After lunch and more relaxing we will head back to Stonetown.
