Education Program

Teacher Mohammed, History Teacher and Guiding Skills Tourguide for Historical and Cultural Tours

Our Education program exists of two parts, a practical part and a theoretical part. We have 5 qualified guides in our organization who will conduct the tours. On each tour there will be a trainee or even two to learn the tricks of the trade from the experienced guide and get practical training.
We have weekly meetings and the trainee’s are active with marketing, we do are marketing by spreading flyers rather then chasing tourists on the streets.

The theoretical part of the education program exist of language classes, history of Zanzibar, Tanzania and Africa, tourism in general, Guides training, communication, fundraising, marketing and financial management.

Our organisation exists of about 15 advanced trainee’s, 30 beginners, 5 teacher guides, two Spanish teachers, a history teacher, a management team and there are two foreign tourmanagers who are coaching the management team,Teacher Ally. Subjects; Spanish and Guiding Skills Allround Tourguide teaching practical guides skills and helping with public relations and
publicity.

Our plan is to set up a six months training program, finalised with and exam and a chance to register officially as a Guide. The new guides get assistance with finding a job and a chance to work with us as a Teacher Guide until they find their own jobs. We are looking for funds to make this a reality (e.g. to rent proper classrooms, to buy computers and to pay our teachers and the management staff) At the moment everybody is working voluntary and the office is used as a classroom. We are offering our students; History classes, Practical Guides Training Classes and Spanish classes for beginners and advanced students. We have done research and found out that there is a high demand for our Education system from future students as well as the government and the growing tourism Industry. The future program will look like this: Two languages; English (obligatory) and one of the other languages: Spanish/ German/ French/ Italian, Communication Skills (e.g. conflict Management, Cross cultural etc.) Practical Guides training, First Aid, General Knowledge (History, Politics, Social studies of Zanzibar, Tanzania and Africa in general).
