Kawa's Tours is an organisation that exists of a group of young people who want to make a difference. By organising Cultural tours they give you a good insight of what is going on in the daily Swahili life. In this way they channel some of the money that comes into Zanzibar by tourism to the benefit and the development of the local communities. Kawa's have Training programs for young people who want to become guides. In this way they can help each other and others to work on a better future.

Kawa's Tours is born out of The Zanzibar Youth Promotion Center. A center that promoting youth and informing them about Aids and Drug Abuse. Unemployment rates are very high in Zanzibar and many youths get up every morning with nothing to do and no money to do something and no hope for the future. What we want to do is to give these youths hope and a chance to change things.

We are offering a practical and theoretical tourism training so that they can become good and qualified guides. However,it is not really offering because we ask a lot from our trainee guides, they help to keep the company running, they are bringing new ideas for tours and they are involved in making the training program, finding teachers, promoting the Kawa's company, and they are helping with the fundraising.

We started our own non profit tourcompany so that our trainee's will immediately get familiar with all the aspects of a tourism company. We are working on a good relationship with existing tour companies, by talking with them we found out that there is a big need for good qualified guides. Up until now most companies train their own guides, we are hoping that we can offer those companies our guides and in exchange they will offer us a share in their knowledge and a good cooperation.
